Supporting All Families’ Comfort Levels with AI in the Classroom

Joe McCormick, Cofounder
By Joe

We understand that conversations around artificial intelligence in education are becoming more common, and we know that some families prefer their children not engage directly with AI-powered tools. At Instructron, our goal has always been to provide resources that support teachers and enhance student learning, and that includes respecting the choices families make.

If a family chooses for their student not to use the AI portions of Instructron, we can honor that request while still giving the student access to valuable learning experiences. Here’s what that looks like:

  • No AI Interactions
Students will not be able to interact with Coach Tronnie, our AI writing and test-prep coach. This means all feedback will come directly from the teacher.
  • Full Access to Teacher-Created Content
Students can still complete writing activities, teacher-created assignments, and test prep materials. These activities will function exactly as they do for other students, just without the AI guidance.
  • Teacher-Only Feedback
All scoring, comments, and suggestions will come from the teacher. Students will continue to get clear, actionable feedback to help them grow.
  • Data for Teachers
Even without AI interactions, teachers will still receive performance data for each student, helping them make informed instructional decisions.

We believe families should have the option to choose what’s best for their child’s learning journey. Whether a student uses Coach Tronnie or not, our mission remains the same — to support teachers, strengthen skills, and help every learner succeed.

If you are a parent or guardian, you can request that your child use Instructron without Coach Tronnie, allowing them to complete all assignments and receive teacher feedback without any AI interactions. Teachers can easily adjust account settings to honor this request while still providing students with access to writing activities, teacher-created assignments, and test prep. District administrators and technology leads can support this process by configuring accounts so that families’ preferences are respected while still giving students and teachers access to valuable instructional tools and performance data.
