Student Learning Profiles help you understand each learner’s strengths, preferences, and needs—so you can personalize teaching, support growth, and make smarter groups. This guide will show you how the feature works for both students and teachers, and how it enhances the Instructron experience.
Listen to our team discuss this feature at length: https://instructron.com/resources/instructron-unstructured-episode-3.
What are Student Learning Profiles?
Each student in Instructron completes a quick survey about how they like to learn, their confidence levels, interests, and more. Profiles help power:
- More targeted support from the AI coach
- Smarter student groupings
- Better insight for you as a teacher
Everything is private, stored securely, and is easy for students to update anytime.

For Students: How to Complete (or Update) Your Profile
1. Accessing Your Profile
- When students log in for the first time, a pop-up survey invites them to set up their profile.
- Students can revisit and update their answers anytime.
2. The Profile Steps
Students are guided through five quick steps:
- Confidence Check:
- Students rate how confident they feel in Reading, Writing, Math, Science, and Speaking.
- Sliders make it visual (red to green).
- Learning Strategies:
- Students choose up to 3 ways they like to learn (e.g., “Draw it out”, “Quick quizzes”, “Teach a friend”).
- Interests:
- Students pick what they’re interested in (sports, art, gaming, nature, etc.).
- Motivation:
- What makes students feel proud when they work hard (winning a challenge, getting noticed, solving a tough problem, etc.).
- Fun Facts:
- Two quick open-ended questions for personality and classroom connection.
Students can update their profile anytime. Profiles are always kept private and secure.
For Teachers: How to Use Learning Profiles

- Dashboard:
- Click “Student Profiles Snapshot” from your classroom dashboard’s Quick Insights panel.
- Class Overview:
- See popular interests, top learning strategies, and confidence levels at a glance.
- Review every student’s card for a quick summary of their preferences.
2. Drilling Down: Individual Profiles

How Learning Profiles Improve the Classroom
- Personalized AI Coach (in development):
The AI coach uses each profile’s details to adapt its hints, strategies, and even examples to student interests or barriers. - Better Groupings (in development):
Profiles will help create groups based on learning strategies, interests, confidence, and more. - Actionable Insights:
Spot trends, identify students needing extra support, and plan lessons that match your classroom’s strengths and needs.
Best Practices
For Teachers:
- Invite students to complete their profiles early (ideally in the first weeks).
- Use classroom trends to plan lessons and activities.
- Review individual profiles to check in with struggling or excelling students.
- Add teacher notes over time—track support, strengths, and progress.
- Consider using profiles during group planning for better collaboration.
For Students:
- Encourage honest answers (“there are no right or wrong answers!”).
- Remind students they can update their profile if their interests or preferences change.
Privacy & Security
- Only teachers see profile info for students in their classroom and can choose what to do with it.
- All data is encrypted and handled securely.
- AI opt outs for individuals or entire classrooms can be toggled if desired.
